Scope of Work: Edward Hines VA Hospital had a high operational need to replace the existing steam distribution piping and telecommunications duct underground between two buildings on the Hospital Campus. The existing steam lines outlived its life expectancy and was leaking. In addition to the extensive trenching work, the scope also included infrastructure modifications in the exisiting steam pits and service vaults, as well as replacement of piping components inside the two building’s mechanical rooms. In total, 500 LF of piping was removed and replaced. Unique to the project was the phasing and coordination in a manner least likely to disturb daily operaons of the VA Hospital. The project was completed ahead of schedule through scheduling and coordination with the hospital staff. To migate service interruptions to deliveries and parking, road plates were installed and existing parking areas were temporarily modified to retain the exising number of parking stalls.
