Scope of Work: This 2-phased project consisted of a 9,000 sq. ft. two-story metal panel addition, 1000 sq. ft. renovation to the existing elementary school, and new paved basketball courts. The school remained operational during construction thorough planning and execution of all construction activities. New spaces created with the addition are: Art Room, Music Room, Flexible Learning Hubs, Small Learning Spaces/Classrooms, a 2-stop elevator, unique Stair Tower, (2) Locker Rooms, and (10) Single Bath- rooms. Renovations to the existing school consisted of demolition of locker rooms to a new Spanish Language Classroom and (2) Bathrooms. Also included in the existing school renovation was a Staff Refresh Room / Mother’s Room, and new Classrooms. A new HVAC system was installed in the existing Gymnasium to accommodate the new building addition. Site work around the addition included an outdoor plaza, asphalt paving, concrete sidewalks, and basketball courts. Additionally, a large undertaking to install an underground storm water detention system in the paved area was accomplished. A challenged overcome by Troop’s project team was building the addition within three exterior walls that were not parallel, and tie-in of the addition’s structural steel to the existing school’s structural system. This was accomplished through careful coordination between Troop’s project team, subcontractors, and the Architect.
