Scope of Work: This state-of-the-art, ground-up, 2-story education building (30,000 sq.ft.) was constructed to provide specialized after school programs and upper class electives for the students of the East Aurora School District: music, culinary, e-sports, theater, dance, art, music, and video production. The stated goal of the project was to amplify the resilience of East Aurora students by providing new opportunities for growth, development and advancement. Additional rooms include a large multi-media presentation space / commons, tutoring rooms, counselor offices, administrative, study hall rooms, and computer labs. The completed center also includes a recording studio for music students, a full culinary kitchen, a coffee shop, ample study and collaboration space, as well as areas for district families to gather for parent association meetings and support groups. This one-of-a -kind building also includes a tiered open area for presentations and concerts, a full-service kitchen for teaching culinary arts, an E-sports classroom/lounge, separate studios for art, dance, television production, and music recording, therapy rooms and more. A portion of the building was constructed as a rated tornado storm shelter, bringing additional structural steel, solid masonry walls, 5” thick concrete roof slabs, and hurricane-rated windows and doors, along with a separate HVAC system & backup battery system. Troop ins tuted BIM modeling on this project during the preconstruction phase, creating a detailed 3D digital model of a building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection infrastructure that identified and corrected all issues prior to construction.
